The “eastern city gates” are three buildings that we proudly call one of the symbols of the city and Yugoslav Socialism.
The buildings are constructed by Vera Ćirković in 1976. as a double to “western city gate.” The complex Eastern city gates are
three buildings and each of them has 28 stories and 190 apartments. They are 85 m tall each. Just like its western counterpart,
the Western City Gate, it was built in the brutalist style. By late 1980's there were 1.500 the buildings had a bunch of problems
and it turned out the buildings weren't really meant to have residentes. Nothing changed and even though the buildings are in extremely
bad shape, people still live there. In 2010, the tenants began collecting funds for the further repairs and in 2012 they started an
initiative to fix the problems with the facades. By 2013, concrete chunks up to 60 kg (130 lb) began to fall off the buildings
